What is the real definition of classic cars?
The term "classic car" is often used to refer to an older car. However, what the
term actually means is a much debated subject. Some people believe that any
older car is a classic car as long as it is in fine condition. Others, such as
the Classic Car Club of American and Concours d'Elegance, believe that classic
cars are those that were produced up to 1948.
In the United States, majority of states have their own rules for defining what
a "classic car" is for purposes like antique vehicle registration. In
Pennsylvania, for instance, a car is a classic if it is "A motor vehicle, but
not a reproduction thereof, manufactured at least 15 years prior to the current
year which has been maintained in or restored to a condition which is
substantially in conformity with manufacturer specifications and appearance.
Classic cars have divisions. For instance, cars that are between 15 and 25 years
old belong in the Modern Classics division. The Antique Automobile Club of
America, however, does not accept these cars as classics. Modern Classics cars
are rare and/or out of production and have a typically good following of auto
enthusiasts.
